As many of you probably know, I’m an elementary school teacher as well as an author so June for me is a pretty hectic time. With my little babies graduating, I didn’t have as much time to devote to my newsletter as I would have liked but I’m back! And I’m ready to kick off my author summer!
With the months of July and August free, (mostly, besides the various social engagements I have) I’ve decided to spend my days as if I were a full-time author. That means writing everyday, working on my marketing and networking, becoming and staying relevant on social media and so on and so forth. I’ve set up a schedule for myself with times and objectives and deadlines that I only hope I’ll be able to meet. And while I’m ready to jump right in, I thought it would be helpful for me to start off with creating three goals for myself to complete by the end of the summer and if I tell them to you then you’ll hold me accountable for keeping them! (Right?)
Goal #1: Complete one manuscript
If you recall one of my previous posts, I’ve got two drafts in the works right now (one significantly farther along than the other). My goal is to complete one of them. I’m not specifying which one and I’m not saying it needs to be ready to publish by Sept 1, but it needs to be done enough that I can be ready to send it to beta readers before my editor gets her hands on it in November. That being said, this goal is probably my hardest the achieve but the one I want to accomplish the most.
Goal #2: Gain 5,000 more followers on social media
This one is tricky. I say 5,000 people I need some kind of specific number, if I just said “gain more” I wouldn’t know when I’ve actually done it to the best of my specifications. Also, I wrote social media, rather than just instagram or just tiktok, because I’m going to try and engage in both and I’m not sure which will be more successful. My instagram is pretty active but I know the real fame for indie authors these days is on tiktok. I just need one video to go viral and I’m in.
Goal #3: Gather 100 more reviews on my books
Another tricky one and the number system remains the same. This goal goes hand in hand with the social media, the more exposure I get, the more people will buy and read the books and the more they will review it. It doesn’t have to be 100 for each either, just a total between the two already published books.
I will check back in on these goals on Sept 1 and let you know how I did! What do you guys think? Will I be able to do it?
You got this. I heard it’s best to work from the beach.
You can do anything!!!!
